Miromar Lakes’ Arthur Hills’ ‘Signature’ Championship Golf Course is in optimum playing condition after an innovative change to its maintenance schedule.
Miromar Lakes is ahead of the game, gaining a full month and a half of superb conditions by undertaking an extended in-depth summer maintenance program. Historically, most Southwest Florida golf courses are at minimum acceptable playing conditions in September and early October, while Miromar Lakes is in top condition.
“We accomplished the course surface area renovation goals that the USGA recommends for an entire year, in just this summer maintenance. The ability to allow the course to rest and rejuvenate maximized the effects of the maintenance program.” says Miromar Lakes golf course superintendent Jim Hengel.
Mike Spetsios, with the Southwest Florida Chapter PGA, complimented after a recent tournament at Miromar Lakes Golf Course, “I would like to thank superintendent Jim Hengel and his staff for the fantastic condition of the course. The greens were some of the best I have played in our Chapter. It sure is a pleasure to play a course that is in tournament condition. Hopefully, the Chapter will have the privilege of playing in many more tournaments hosted by such a premier facility as Miromar Lakes Beach & Golf Club. “
Hengel says he consulted with a network of golf course superintendents across the country before committing to this innovative schedule. The aggressive program was especially effective in part because Miromar Lakes’ golf course is always maintained to the highest standards.
Director of Golf and Memberships Ken McMaster says the approach brought inquiries from other fellow PGA professionals who were interested in the intention and end result of the change. “Our intention was the same as other years; being optimum playing surfaces for our members, but this schedule proved to be more efficient. The course is now in superior condition and we invite our reciprocal club members to experience it first hand. I know they will be amazed at the condition of the course.”
The Miromar Lakes Golf Club boasts the only Arthur Hills “Signature” championship golf course in Southwest Florida. A par-72 course, pros and amateurs alike rave about the 7,400 yards of play.
