Green Golf Partners Signs Agreement to Manage Meshingomesia Golf & Social Club in Central Indiana (Sept 8)

September 8, 2015 – Green Golf Partners (GGP), one of the country’s leading golf course management and development companies, has signed an agreement to manage the venerable Meshingomesia Golf & Social Club in Marion, Indiana. The contract is effective September 1, 2015. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Dating back to 1902, Meshingomesia is one of the oldest and most famous courses in Indiana. It is home to Indiana’s golfing ‘royal family,’ headed by Jim Gallagher Sr., a heritage that has produced several professional golfers, including three who have played and won on professional PGA tours. Patriarch Jim Gallagher Sr., his daughter Jackie and sons Jim Jr. and Jeff were named “National Golf Family of the Year” in 1995. Gallagher Sr. now serves as “golf ambassador” for Meshingomesia Golf & Social Club.

The present 18-hole, par-72 layout has four sets of tees ranging from 5,053 yards to 6,445 yards to accommodate any and all skill levels of players. The original nine holes were designed by Willie Stith and opened for play in 1906, then redesigned by legendary Indiana golf course designer Bill Diddle in 1927. Diddle and Clarence Lamboley, Meshingomesia’s long-time golf professional and course superintendent, began another redesign of the 9-hole course in 1955. The design of an additional 9 holes that year expanded Meshingomesia to an 18-hole layout.

“We are thrilled to begin management of one of the most historic golf courses in Indiana,” said Matt McIntee, CEO and principal of Indianapolis-based Green Golf Partners. “Our goal is to refine an already excellent golf and social club experience for members who travel to Meshingomesia from throughout central Indiana. Meshingomesia’s pristine fairways and smooth greens are an inviting oasis for patrons from Muncie, Fort Wayne and Anderson as well as the northern suburbs of Indianapolis and elsewhere in the state.”

Originally located in Marion, Ind., the Marion Country Club was reorganized and incorporated under new leadership in 1919. At that time its name was changed to Meshingomesia Country Club in honor of Meshingomesia, the respected chief of the area’s indigenous Native American Miami tribe who died in 1879 at age 98.
