Manager of Burlington golf course to cease operations at year’s end

The manager of Southwick Golf Course, an 18-hole public course in Burlington, will cease operations at the end of the year, leaving the course’s future operation uncertain.

The Burlington Times-News reports that a letter from the course pro, who also owns the company that manages the course, Aurora Golf Management, says the management company will cease operations on Dec. 31.

“This is a decision that we do not take lightly,” Mark Hopkins wrote in the letter, according to the newspaper. “We have attempted to secure additional financing with our bank but unfortunately they will not work with the golf industry at this time.”

Aurora has managed the course for nine years, during which the course has seen a decline in both the number of golfers and the number of rounds, Hopkins wrote.

While Hopkins stated that it’s a goal to seamlessly transition to a new operator, there was no indication of who will manage the course going forward, the newspaper reports.
