Boughton Ridge Golf Course greens were target of vandalism

Only three holes at Boughton Ridge Golf Course were spared damage when one or more vandals took a shovel to the grass of several greens last week.

Bolingbrook police are still investigating the incident that occurred sometime overnight the weekend of Nov. 20 to six holes on the nine-hole course off Boughton Road.

It appears the greens were damaged with a rounded shovel, according to a police report.

Bolingbrook Park District Superintendent Ron Oestreich said a ranger noticed the damage on the greens … scrapes and holes dug by a shovel … when setting up the course the morning of Nov. 21.

The dents should do little to interrupt the games of dedicated golfers who use the course during the winter, however, Oestrich said. Already district staff members have used turf from the course’s practice green to cover larger holes and planted grass seed on the greens.

Oestrich said he “wouldn’t be able to even speculate why someone would do something like that.”

While the course has endured vandalism in the past, it was never to this extent, he said.
