Mayacama Golf Club has completed a golf course renovation in 2016. 18 greens have been re-grassed, all 57 bunkers have been reconstructed, and the re-building of all tees are underway.
The decision to re-grass all 18 holes came after Spring aeration 2016 when several greens did not recover as expected. The swift decision-making of owners and investors to re-grass all 18 greens and practice greens led to quick mobilization of construction crews and commencement of work. A bunker renovation was already underway and the decision to re-build all tees was also made to not only improve the greens but vastly improve the players overall experience. Integrity of the Jack Nicklaus Signature design was paramount throughout the entire process, being that this was the first renovation since its establishment in 2001. On January 18, 2017 the Club opened all 18 holes for play for the membership. The outpouring of support and gratitude from the membership has been amazing and we appreciate their patience throughout this entire process.
“A great deal of research and thought went into not only choosing the type of bent grass we ultimately ended up planting, but also the sand and soil mixture that the greens are grown in. This rebuild was done with no assessment to the membership, which speaks volumes to the health of the Club. We are extremely happy with the end result and can’t wait for our members to experience their reconditioned golf course.” – Managing Partner, Jonathan Wilhelm
Wilhelm and Golf Course Superintendent, Dale Engman, spent many hours together researching and combing through every grass type and variety to find the best fit for the Club. The ultimate goal was to achieve the best playing conditions and surfaces possible for the membership – they succeeded.
Going into 2017 with all new greens, bunkers, tees, and a renewed vitality, Mayacama could not be more excited to show it off to the members and potential members.
