Eagle Mountain Golf Club in Fountain Hills, Ariz. recently welcomed John B. Patzwald as the club’s new director of golf. Patzwald will oversee all golf operations for the 18-hole daily-fee facility located just east of Scottsdale.
A 25-plus year veteran of the golf industry, Patzwald comes to Eagle Mountain from The Course at Aberdeen in Valparaiso, Indiana, where he served as general manager since 2017. Under his direction, The Course at Aberdeen was named ‘Most Improved Facility’ in 2018 for the Indigo Sports Midwest Region, while Patzwald was named 2020 Indigo Sports Midwest Region ‘General Manager of the Year’. Prior to Aberdeen, Patzwald served in management roles at Indigo Sports-managed facilities in Illinois and Minnesota, including director of golf at George Dunne National Golf Course in Oak Forest, Ill.
Incredibly, Patzwald made a hole-in-one while playing the 183-yard, par-3 5th hole at Eagle Mountain during his third day on the job. It was Patzwald’s third ace.
Patzwald returns to the busy Scottsdale golf market for the first time since 2009. He previously was the director of golf at Sanctuary Golf Course (now McDowell Mountain Golf Club) for eight years, and an assistant golf professional at SunRidge Canyon Golf Course in Fountain Hills for three-and-a-half years.
“It’s great to have John back in Scottsdale and leading the golf operations at Eagle Mountain,” said Eagle Mountain General Manager Bret Greenwood. “He’s a proven leader, who’s passionate about golf and introducing the game to others.”
Originally from Mason City, Iowa, Patzwald holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from National-Louis University in Evanston, Illinois. He has been a Class-A member of the PGA of America since 2002.
