Bayer Doubles Commitment to Superintendents Grant Program for Hurricane Victims for a Second Year

Bayer will send 10 GCSAA members to the 2019 Golf Industry Show.

Lawrence, Kan. (Oct. 23, 2018) – As a way to assist golf course superintendents with their professional development, each year the Environmental Science Division of Bayer CropScience teams up with the Environmental Institute for Golf, the philanthropic organization of the Golf Course Superintendents Association, to send five superintendents to the annual Golf Industry Show through the Bayer Superintendent Grant Program. For the 2019 GIS, Feb. 2-7 in San Diego, Bayer is doubling its support and sending five additional superintendents — all from areas affected by hurricanes Florence and Michael, including North Carolina, South Carolina and Florida.

Prior to announcing the expansion of the program for hurricane victims, Bayer had reinforced its dedication to the Bayer Superintendent Grant Program with a focus on encouraging minorities and women to apply.

“Diversity is vital for the future growth of the golf industry, and Bayer is committed to helping develop a broad pool of talented people in turf management,” Bayer Golf Segment Manager David Wells said. “Golf ultimately benefits from the innovative and problem-solving abilities and new ideas that are possible through diversity of thought and background. Bayer and EIFG/GCSAA encourage these motivated individuals to apply for the Bayer Superintendent Grant to attend GIS 2019.”

Applications for the Bayer Superintendent Grant Program are open now through Nov. 16 and are available at http://www.eifg.org/education/bayer-superintendent-grant-program. Currently employed superintendents who have not attended GIS in the prior two years (San Antonio 2018 and Orlando 2017) are eligible to apply. For hurricane victims, the recent attendance rule will be waived. Winners receive airfare, hotel accommodations for five nights, conference full-pack registration, two education seminars and $200 spending money.

“GCSAA and the EIFG are very fortunate to have a friend like Bayer, which supports our members during difficult times,” GCSAA CEO Rhett Evans said. “And their commitment to promoting diversity and inclusion strengthens and benefits the entire industry.”
Bayer is a member of the Victory Club in the EIFG’s Cumulative Giving Program, which recognizes organizations that have donated more than $1 million since 1987. The company is also a Silver Partner in GCSAA’s Partner Recognition Program.
