Myrtle Beach Area Golf Courses Welcome Players Back After Tropical Storm Debby Passes

Prestwick Country Club

Myrtle Beach area golf courses quickly reopened after a brush with Tropical Storm Debby, welcoming players back to the Golf Capital of the World.

The Grand Strand, which stretches from Pawleys Island to just across the state line in Brunswick County, N.C., is home to over 65 golf courses that are members of Golf Tourism Solutions. As of Tuesday, August 6, every course had closed to prepare for the storm.  Fortunately, nearly every course was able to reopen for play by Saturday, August 10.

“We are grateful to have avoided the worst of Tropical Storm Debby, and our member golf courses were able to open so soon,” said Ryan Cannon, Executive Director of GTS. “Our thoughts and prayers are with those who have not been as fortunate.”

With the 41st annual Play Golf Myrtle Beach World Amateur Handicap Championship (August 26-30) and the area’s peak fall season on the immediate horizon, players can expect to find their favorite golf course in typically outstanding condition, continuing a banner year for the area.

Myrtle Beach’s fall season tees off in mid-September as players from around the world flock to the area to enjoy outstanding golf, weather, and the good times on and off the course that have long made the Grand Strand the game’s most popular destination.
