Toro Irrigation Inks Deal for “The Water Zone” on Local Radio (Jun 11)

June 11, 2015 – The Toro Company has signed with NBC Radio affiliate KCAA 1050 AM to spearhead a weekly one-hour show, addressing California’s current drought situation.

The show, titled The Water Zone, is slated to launch in late June to help educate Californians on ways to save water amid the drought. It coincides with July being Smart Irrigation Month, which was introduced by the Irrigation Association to draw greater attention to water-saving irrigation innovations and best practices, and has since gained recognition throughout the U.S.

The show will be hosted by Toro’s Mike Baron and Rob Starr, who collectively have more than 50 years in the irrigation business. The purpose of the show is to help further educate individuals about products and practices to utilize their outdoor water more efficiently, to inform the listeners about the latest in smart irrigation technologies available, and to keep them up-to-date on state and regional water policies.

The Water Zone will feature up-to-the-minute discussion on weekly water issues occurring around the state and locally, as well as include one-on-one interviews from a myriad of guests representing California state law makers, water agencies, landscape architects, landscape contractors, distributors, homebuilders, commercial developers, realtors and others who are affected by the drought. “We are extremely excited to bring this show to our southern California listeners. It is very timely and appropriate that we get the opportunity to hear from various influential guests who will provide insight to our current drought situation,” said Mark Westbrook, KCAA General Manager.

Additionally, the show will focus on an “irrigation retrofit project of the week,” detailing how homeowners can identify irrigation problems that cause water waste and how to fix them. The listening audience will be able to call in to ask questions directly of either the show hosts or on-air guests. Listeners will also have a chance to win a completely updated irrigation system, including installation, that will help them save on outdoor water use. “This drought is a serious issue to all of us,” said Baron, co-host of The Water Zone. “We want to make sure that folks are aware that removing turf is not the only option available to those who want to do their part in saving water. There are a multitude of options available that can make a big impact, and our goal is to share that information in a fun, yet informative way.”

The Water Zone kicks off on Thursday, June 25 at 6 p.m. PDT and will air every Thursday at 6 p.m. through September 17. For more information about the show, visit the KCAA 1050 AM website at www.kcaaradio.com. KCAA 1050 AM reaches approximately 5 million people in Riverside, San Bernardino and Orange County.
