For the second consecutive year, the philanthropic golfers of Naples Lakes Country Club (www.napleslakesfl.com) held a golf tournament benefiting Home Base SWFL, a facility dedicated to healing invisible wounds for veterans and their families. The 2nd Annual NLCC/Home Base SWFL Golf Tournament and related events raised approximately $40,000, topping the $28,000 raised in the 2020 tournament. All proceeds from the event will remain in Southwest Florida.
Naples Lakes residents Pat Laird and John Harrison Co-Chaired the Steering Committee for the charity event. “We are grateful to the Naples community, Naples Lakes resident volunteers and staff for contributing time, talent, and treasure to fund important Home Base programs,” said Pat Laird. “November 14 was a day of patriotism and pride at Naples Lakes. More than 700 American flags lined community streets providing the backdrop as 162 golfers, including ten Home Base veterans, teed up to play on our Arnold Palmer Signature Golf Course. The day-long celebration of our country and our veterans included morning and afternoon golf rounds.”
The Golden Gate High School Junior ROTC served as Color Guard for ceremonies that launched each round with the singing of the National Anthem and reciting of the Pledge of Allegiance. The ROTC Cadets also organized a push-up challenge, collecting dollars for each push-up, ultimately raising $2,650 for the cause.
Tournament event sponsors included Fresh Market, Genesis of Naples, Eurasia Italian & Vietnamese Cuisine, Naples Lakes Roosters Golf Group, many Naples Lakes residents, and dozens of area merchants and golf communities, which donated items for a silent auction.
Commented Naples Lakes Director of Golf Jake Myers, “We are extremely proud of the dedication of our residents and golfers to help provide services for the Home Base organization. This dedication is just one of the many reasons that make this community special. It is truly a pleasure to be a part of something so great.”

Home Base SWFL is a nonprofit that operates on philanthropy and is a program of the Red Sox Foundation and Massachusetts General Hospital. Serving the five-county SWFL region, Home Base is devoted to providing life-saving clinical care and support for treatment of the invisible wounds to include post-traumatic stress, traumatic brain injury, anxiety, depression, substance abuse disorders, family relationship challenges, and other issues associated with military service – all with no out-of-pocket cost for participants. Recent conflicts such as the fall of Afghanistan and the COVID-19 Pandemic have resulted in a dramatic surge in demand for clinical services, while negatively impacting Home Base’s ability to raise critical funding.
