After being closed due to the coronavirus in March, Eagle Ridge Resort & Spa is excited to announce the re-opening of its North and South golf courses on May 1, 2020, in accordance with the recent permission from the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity. Known for their challenging play and stunning views, the South Course will be open seven days a week, and the North Course will be open Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.
“We, along with the other golf courses and associations of Illinois, are thrilled to be able to open, and are committed to operating our courses in the safest manner possible,” said Ryan Brown, director of golf. “It’s a great opportunity for our guests to enjoy some competition and socialization and experience the beauty of The Galena Territory.”
Eagle Ridge Resort & Spa will follow the guidelines set by the state of Illinois, which include:
The main Eagle Ridge Resort & Spa resort facilities will remain closed, but on-the-go meals and snacks will be available.
Eagle Ridge Resort & Spa’s North Course is characterized by elevated tee boxes and stunning views of Lake Galena and the surrounding countryside. The signature hole is number 8, which is a 165-yard par 3 with 80 feet of elevation change from tee to green. The tee shot on 8 crosses the corner of Lake Galena, opening up to a spectacular view of the lake and its majestic rock outcroppings.
The South Course, which opened in 1984 and was voted one of the top 75 upscale courses in the country, winds through a beautiful wooded valley where streams come into play on 11 of 18 holes. The signature hole is number 18, a 406-yard par 4 with the tee set 90 feet above a landing area which is guarded by lakes on both sides and a stream that crosses the fairway 265 yards from the tee. Although shorter in yardage than Eagle Ridge Resort & Spa’s other courses, the South Course is the resort’s most difficult and the best test of player’s accuracy and shot-making skills.
As of now, Eagle Ridge & Spa, plans to open its signature course, The General, in mid-June. The General, touted as one of the top 100 golf courses in the nation, and its surrounding pro complex has undergone a major transformation. The new clubhouse triples the size of the previous pro shop and also features a streamlined check-in experience, a new restaurant and lounge overlooking the course, a general store, a gas station and a café counter for quick bites and coffee. In addition, the course itself has been flipped, so play now ends at what used to be hole number nine.
More details about the General and clubhouse complex will be available closer to the grand re-opening.
The North and South Courses are available to both members and the general public. Golf memberships and day rates for the 2020 season are posted on www.eagleridge.com. Players 17 and under can play for free with a paying adult. Those with questions or ready to schedule can call (800) 892-2269.
