Why Would A Girl Marry A Golf Course Superintendent?

The easy answer is: she didn’t know what she was getting herself into!

It’s dangerous to write this from a man’s perspective. Truth be told, I was afraid to ask my wife, Renna!

But I can tell you a few things, girls, and here we go:

1. If you’re looking for a lazy guy, forget it.
2. If you’re looking for someone who isn’t organized, you’ve got the wrong guy.
3. If you want a guy who doesn’t understand the beauty of nature and how it intertwines with life, don’t look at this guy.
4. Supers love people, young or old. They don’t care if you’re a man or a woman, what color your skin is, or whether you’re a Democrat or a Republican. They’re more concerned about whether you show up on time and are willing to work hard.
5. If you’re looking for a boring guy who isn’t very creative, forget about it.
6. If you’re looking for a poor communicator, look somewhere else.

By this time, you’re thinking these guys are a perfect catch.

Hang on—we have luggage!

We are notorious for telling you we’re close to leaving work when, in fact, we are nowhere near our truck. We are born schmoozers! We are experts at extricating ourselves from very negative situations!

We have been known to over promise and under-deliver, particularly when we’re on the ropes!

So now you’re all mixed up. Lots of yeses—and several YIKES!

But here is the long and short of it.

When you marry a superintendent, your life will never be boring. They are unbelievable at digging deep. When you know he is too tired to play with the kids or listen to your problems, he’ll locate that last reserve of energy and give you all he has.

He is a deeply emotional person, regardless of how hard he tries to hide it. But he is tough as nails and very loyal. He will go to the end of the earth to protect his family.

He’ll surprise you when you least expect it.

I would come home with flowers, and Renna would say, “What did you do?”

“Nothing yet. Just making a deposit in the bank of forgiveness.”

She would reply, “You are already running a deficit.”

I realize there are exceptions to all rules, but if you locate a genuine model, grab on and enjoy a great life.

Renna and I have been married 52 years. We met at Penn State, dated for a few weeks, and six months later we were married.

I recognized a great girl when I saw one. She was super pretty, loved the outdoors, and was always up for an adventure.

LITTLE DID SHE KNOW that I would over-deliver in the surprise and adventure department.

Life isn’t easy, but superintendents face unpredictable challenges every day on the job, which helps them deal with the unpredictable events of life.

Not sure I answered the question.

Oh yeah—we are good at misdirection as well.
