Westport’s Longshore Golf Club Welcomes New Superintendent (Mar 10)

March 10, 2015 – ValleyCrest Golf Maintenance has appointed Michael Golden as the new superintendent at Longshore Golf Club in Westport.
The appointment was announced by Stuart McCarthy, Westport director of Parks and Recreation.

Before joining ValleyCrest, Golden served as assistant superintendent at The Stanwich Club in Greenwich. He was also assistant superintendent at Edgewood Country Club in River Vale, N.J., Century Country Club in Purchase, N.Y., and Metedeconk National Golf Club in Jackson, N.J.

He interned at Twin Brooks Golf Club in Hyannis, Mass., and Canoe Brook Country Club in Summit, N.J.

Golden has 13 years of tournament experience, including Dick’s Sporting Goods Open, LPGA Match Play Championship and U.S. Open. He received his bachelor of science degree in turf management from State University of New York at Delhi in Delhi, N.Y. He holds a pesticide applicator license from the state of New Jersey.

“Michael comes to us with an impressive background at top golf facilities that demand the highest quality conditions” said Vince Gilmartin, ValleyCrest area director, Northeast. “We are confident Michael will continue our progression in positioning Longshore as one of the premier public golf courses in Connecticut and a facility the residents of Westport will be proud of.”

Charlie Haberstroh, chairman of the Parks and Recreation Commission, said, “We welcome Michael to Longshore and Westport and we look forward to working with Michael and VallyCrest to continue to improve the golfing experience at Longshore.”
