Big changes are taking place beneath the big sky country of West Texas as Lajitas Golf Resort & Spa, the breathtaking 27,000-acre resort nestled in the desert near Big Bend National Park, welcomes a new management team. Meadowbrook Golf Group, which manages such nationally renowned golf courses as ChampionsGate Golf Resort in Orlando, Florida, and the Links at Brigantine Beach in New Jersey, is assuming management responsibilities at Lajitas, the region’s top resort destination set among one of the most magnificent and unique landscapes in America.
Meadowbrook’s Medallion Division, known for providing the highest levels of service and quality standards in the industry, will officially take over all of the resort management responsibilities at Lajitas on Feb. 1. The addition of the Medallion Division’s management services at Lajitas will dovetail harmoniously with Meadowbrook’s esteemed agronomic division, International Golf Maintenance (IGM), which has been managing Lajitas’ golf course maintenance operations since September 2010. In an effort to elevate the treasured Lajitas experience even more, the new Meadowbrook management team is meticulously tending to the 18-hole championship Black Jack’s Crossing Golf Course, and revamping the entire food and beverage department to provide a higher level of service and quality of product.
The new on-site management team includes General Manager John Finley, who has several academic degrees in hotel and restaurant management from the most prominent institutions in the industry, as well as 30-plus years of experience in the field of hospitality management, including 24 years managing the revered Prestonwood Country Club in Dallas. New Director of Development Al Blaine, a successful commercial real estate executive, will manage all real estate sales, capital projects and overall facility maintenance at Lajitas. Pat O’Hagen, Lajitas’ new food and beverage director, brings more than 20 years of hotel and private country club management experience.
“Lajitas is such a special place that brings all of what Texas has to offer to one location,” says Meadowbrook’s Vice President of Operations Scott Beasley. “We all fell in love with the facility and town, from the mountains, the unbelievable sky, the fabulous golf course to all of the hunting and equestrian activities. It is also a facility that we sincerely believe can become the finest resort in the state and one of the best in the country. Our hopes are that Lajitas will become the Bandon Dunes of the Southwest, with a lot more to offer than just golf.”
Lajitas Golf Resort & Spa is located in the West Texas desert near Big Bend National Park. The resort is inspired by the charm of the Old West and the grandeur of the majestic surroundings, and boasts a variety of amenities and activities such as hunting, horseback riding, golf, nature tours and spa services.
