The University of Wisconsin Athletic Department has announced plans for a Golf Training Center to be located at University Ridge golf course. The team training facility will provide the men’s and women’s golf programs with practice space available throughout the year.
The 11,600 square foot Golf Training Center was made possible by a generous seven-figure gift from a former Badger men’s golfer with a second major contribution coming from a former Badger men’s basketball player. A number of other individuals, including other former Badger athletes, made gifts in support of the $2.8 million project, which is being funded entirely by private gifts.
“We are very thankful to all those who have chosen to support Wisconsin Athletics in this way, and in particular, our former men’s golf letter winner who jump-started this project by making the lead gift,” UW Director of Athletics Barry Alvarez said. “This much-needed facility will have a meaningful impact on our golf programs for decades to come.”
Construction of the Golf Training Center began in March 2012 and the facility is scheduled to be completed in November 2012. Highlights of the facility include multiple heated hitting bays, state-of-the-art video capability, putting and chipping areas, as well as men’s and women’s golf locker rooms and team meeting space.
Wisconsin’s golf coaches are looking forward to using the facility. “This facility will be a huge asset to our program from the standpoint of having dedicated space to practice as well as the opportunity to showcase the facility to potential future Badger golfers,” said Mike Burcin, Head Men’s Golf Coach.
“Our team is very excited to have access to the space and amenities that the Golf Training Center will offer,” said Todd Oehrlein, Head Women’s Golf Coach. “This facility will be on par with that of many of our peers both in the Big Ten and nationally.”
