Trout Lake Golf Club Hires a New Golf Course Superintendent

Trout Lake Golf Club, a mainstay in the Northwoods and the golf industry since 1924, has hired a new GCSAA golf course superintendent who began on the job April 1.

Brian Busha, who comes to Trout Lake Golf Club from Weston, began his career in the golf industry as far back as a junior in high school.

“I began working at Greenwood Hills in Wausau for the grounds crew and fell in love with it,” said Busha. “I learned a lot about the superintendent’s role at a golf facility through Scott Sann, who has been at Greenwood Hills for 15-plus years.”

According to a Trout Lake press release, after graduation from high school, Busha went on to college in Eau Claire, successfully earning a degree in turf management. This degree provides an education in turf management, disease control, and all aspects of course management. After earning his degree, Wisconsin River Golf Club in Stevens Point hired Busha as an assistant golf course superintendent, where he learned invaluable golf course management for the next three years.

For the past three years, Busha has been the assistant golf course superintendent at Minocqua Country Club under the supervision of Bill Stein.

“Minocqua C.C. has been a great working experience and has provided me with different aspects of golf course management, especially how to run a golf course from a business standpoint and the attention to detail a golf course requires,” said Busha. “Using all of my past experiences of course management, I’ve created my own, unique way, which I believe will benefit Trout Lake Golf Club in a positive way.”

Busha said he has some big goals for Trout Lake Golf Club, according to the press release.

“I really want to make the clientele proud of what Trout Lake has to offer and want to come back to play this historic golf course, time and time again,” Busha said. “We want to create a product that will not just provide awesome playing surfaces, but be talked about around the Northwoods. Making it a premier golfing destination will be a top priority.”

Busha’s hobbies include golfing, hunting fishing and boating.
