Superintendent Spotlight: Barry Adams, Roseburg Country Club

Barry Adams has been the Golf Course Superintendent at the Roseburg Country Club in Roseburg, Oregon since 1996. In 1993 he graduated from Oregon State University with a Bachelor of Science in Horticulture. He did his internship at Walt Disney World, EPCOT Center as a landscape gardener. While attending OSU, Barry worked at the Corvallis Country Club under Doug Hubert where he shifted his focus from landscape construction to golf course maintenance. Barry spent two years in California at the Jess Ranch Golf Course as the grow-in assistant superintendent under David Hay, CGCS, and one more year as the head golf course superintendent. In September of 1996, Barry was hired to be the golf course superintendent at the Roseburg Country Club. Barry has taken on numerous projects over the years, but the most significant was a $1.6 million project, which included the installation of a new irrigation system along with the renovation of four holes and a driving range. Barry and his staff designed and installed the landscaping on the new club entryway in 1997, the pool area in 2002, and around the new clubhouse in 2004.

Barry has 3 children, ages 17, 14, and 10. He has coached youth soccer for the past nine years for the Roseburg Soccer Association. Barry enjoys hunting and fishing with his family and playing electric guitar.

A Little about Roseburg County Club

From the Country Club Facility, awe-inspiring views await us at each window and an abundance of wildlife calls the grounds home. It is not uncommon to be teeing off, and have to pause while a doe and her fawn dart silently across the greens. To witness the resident Osprey dip into one of the ponds and snag a fish for dinner. They mostly ignore our presence as they go about their days.

Today we have an exciting group of personnel to assist you, the members. Enjoy fine dining or relaxing at the 19th hole. Spend summers by the pool and sip drinks on the patio. There are fun events hosted throughout the year to encourage members to come out to play both off and on the course.

Enjoy our practice range, putting green and pitching areas. Always remember, even the pros need to practice for their game to be “on”.
