Sean O’Brien of Orlando, Florida’s Hawk’s Landing Golf Club honored

Marriott Golf, one of the world’s premier golf operators, announced that Sean O’Brien, Director of Grounds at Hawk’s Landing Golf Club at the Orlando World Center Marriott in Orlando, Fla., has been recognized as the Florida Chapter Award winner for Resorts by the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America (GCSAA) and Golf Digest magazine as part of the Environmental Leaders in Golf Awards (ELGA). The ELGA recognizes golf courses worldwide, along with their staff members, for their commitment to environmental stewardship.

Qualifying award candidates were evaluated in five categories including resource conservation, water quality management, integrated pest management, wildlife/habitat management and education/outreach. Each course was assessed by an independent panel of judges with an equal number of representatives from major national environmental groups and the golf industry. In order to receive this prestigious Chapter recognition, a course must receive a minimum of 80 out of 100 points, based on the following criteria: sustainability, criticality, originality, and technology use/implementation.

“I am honored to be recognized as one of the Environmental Leaders in Golf by GCSAA and Golf Digest,” said O’Brien. “Protecting and preserving the environment should play a significant role in any course’s management and maintenance strategy. I take great pride in establishing and upholding the highest standards within the industry with regards to promoting environmental stewardship, and I’m thrilled that Marriott Golf shares that same passion and commitment.”
