Rio Verde (Ariz.) Country Club announces Dave Ulm as GM, Dan Cutler as Superintendent

May 13, 2016 – Rio Verde Country Club — the award-winning private club northeast of Scottsdale — announces Dave Ulm as its new general manager and Dan Cutler as the new superintendent.

Ulm comes to Rio Verde from Troon Country Club in Scottsdale, where he was the director of marketing and membership since 2012. From 2008 to 2012, he was the general manager at Corte Bella Country Club in Sun City West. Originally from Texas, Ulm has also worked for Troon Golf, the Scottsdale Golf Group and American Golf. Troon Golf was recently brought aboard by Rio Verde in a management capacity to improve its member and golf experience.

Cutler joins the Rio Verde staff after a successful tenure as the golf course superintendent on the Celebrity Course at Indian Wells Golf Resort near Palm Springs, Calif. Prior to Indian Wells, Cutler was at Iron Horse Golf Club in Kansas. A graduate of the University of Nebraska, Cutler spent nine years in the Army Reserves and was deployed to Iraq three times.

“We’re honored to welcome Dave and Dan to Rio Verde,” says Lucy Lucas, Rio Verde Country Club President. “Dave’s enthusiasm is infectious, and he is passionate about taking the club to the next level. Dan’s expertise and eye for detail will greatly improve our two great golf courses.”

Rio Verde is the latest to join Troon’s elite Prive club, the premier reciprocal program for full members. Rio Verde members have the privilege to play at other Troon private clubs for the host club’s cart fee rate. Also, members are entitled to bring up to three guests that will play for the host club’s accompanied rates.

Rio Verde’s Quail Run Course and White Wing Course were renovated by The Lehman Design Group as part of a $6.5 million project modernizing both courses while retaining their “soft desert” playability. Playing to 6,602 yards, Quail Run sports a traditional design reminiscent of America’s great Midwestern golf venues. The par-70, 6,535-yard White Wing features links-style elements such as fairway mounding, open green fronts and stacked-sod bunkering.

Dubbed the “friendliest community in Arizona,” Rio Verde boasts an unmatched sense of kinship among relationship-oriented buyers searching for more than just a “Valley of the Sun” address. Ideal for those who enjoy an active lifestyle, Rio Verde’s resort-style amenities include tennis, Pickleball, a community center, and nearby hiking and biking trails.

Boasting 735 acres of desert wildflowers, cacti and abundant wildlife that border the Tonto National Forest and McDowell Mountains, Rio Verde stands out for its unrivaled views and serenity. A year ago, the enclave became the first Audubon International Certified Sustainable Community west of the Mississippi River and the fifth overall in the United States.
