PEM® Surface Creations Launches High Friction Slip-Resistant Golf Course Matting

Golf course superintendants face unique challenges which include steep slopes, wet paths and fast paced walk areas on golf courses. PEM® Surface Creations, the leader in premium slip resistant matting, has developed a high friction matting solution specifically designed for these areas. This first-of-its-kind matting features an aluminum oxide “grit” material bonded to the company’s high traffic golf matting, creating a skid-resistant matting capable of reducing slips and falls in especially challenging areas.

“Our high friction matting is designed for the most extreme environments around golf courses,” said Rob Amelung, vice-president of PEM. “The unique material bonded with our high traffic PEM matting allows us to offer golf course managers and superintendants the highest level of slip-resistance.”

The first application of PEM’s high friction golf matting has been installed at a St. Louis area country club. After nearly two months since the installation, the product has already proven to be a valuable solution on a steep, winding cart path.

As with all PEM products, the high friction construction is composed of poly extruded matting (PEM) made from virgin raw thermal plastics. The material contains an antimicrobial biocide that guards against the growth of mildew, fungi and bacteria. The porous construction allows moisture to flow through or evaporate to eliminate standing water and reduce algae growth. PEM matting is resistant to environmental and chemical degradation, extreme temperature and wind uplift making it highly durable.

PEM matting offers easy handling and trims effortlessly with a razor knife for custom fitting in all areas. The matting provides low maintenance and cleans with only a sweeping or wash down. All PEM golf course matting is available in a variety of colors, including black, grey, blue, chocolate brown, sand and hunter green.

Today, PEM’s products are installed at more than 2,000 golf courses nationwide. The company will participate in the GCSAA Golf Industry Show February 27 … March 2 and will have samples of the high friction matting available. This year, PEM will be located in booth #1574.
