No timetable to reopen Bay Point Golf Club

PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) – Golf season is usually never-ending at Bay Point Golf Club, but the last few months have seen a rare reduction in activity.

The Nickalus Course was closed for three months this summer, undergoing a half million dollar renovation project to install new greens and bunkers. The same week that course reopened, Hurricane Michael shut the entire club down.

The first order of business post-hurricane was preserving what’s left. Greens, fairways, bunkers, and infrastructure like irrigation have all been maintained. although some are damaged, problems in those areas have not compounded.

There is no timetable for reopening though.

“We just started the bidding process this week for the major tree work out here that needs to be done to get the golf courses back open,” general manager Ryan Mulvey said.

Cleanup requires manpower and patience.

“It’s a major job. It’s very complex. There’s trees down, there’s trews broken, there’s trees uprooted. It’s going to be quite a process to get these golf courses cleaned up and it’s going to have to come in stages, for sure.”

Once the course is cleared of trees, the club will be closer to reaching a decision on when to reopen.
