Nicklaus Design selected Bluegrass State to get a Golden (Bear) Touch (Oct 5)

October 5, 2015 – Nicklaus Design, the world’s leading golf course design company, has been engaged by Legacy Point Capital to design a Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course in the City of Wilmore located just outside Lexington, Ky. The project will be named “Legacy Point” and the Nicklaus Signature Course will be nestled among the horse farms of the Bluegrass State, and will play across naturally rolling hills, sprawling treelines, and beautiful limestone creeks.

“We couldn’t be more excited to partner with the legendary Jack Nicklaus and his golf course design company,” said John Loudon and Byron Holley, representatives for Legacy Point Capital, in a joint statement. “This Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course will be a first for the City of Wilmore and the Lexington Community. Our vision is to create a wonderful golf course through a sustainable design that embraces the environment, our members, services and amenities, and especially the surrounding community. Legacy Point will be about great golf and a whole lot more–it will become a way of life!”

Jack Nicklaus not only has a storied history as both golf’s greatest champion and one of the game’s most respected designers, he also has long-established ties to the state of Kentucky. Nearly 30 years ago, the Golden Bear designed nationally ranked Valhalla in Louisville, and the course has since hosted three PGA Championships, a Ryder Cup in 2008, and two Senior PGA Championships. Nicklaus is now excited to bring a world-class course to Greater Lexington.

“Our team is focused on several objectives,” said Nicklaus, GOLF Magazine’s reigning Golf Course Architect of the Year. “I look forward to returning to the site soon to begin the design process, as we hope to create an exceptional golf experience, wrapped within this beautiful site and its natural surroundings. Legacy Point will have a strong emphasis on family and community, and our goal is to create a golf course that will not only be playable for all levels of golfers and all ages, but a source of great pride for the City of Wilmore and the Lexington community. With the site we have been given, there is enormous potential to create something unique and special.”

“We are delighted to have Legacy Point join the Nicklaus Design family,” the Golden Bear said. “In line with our design philosophy, we are planning very low-impact earthwork to shape the landscape, while preserving and enhancing the area’s natural heritage.”

Loudon and Holley added: “Legacy Point will be an exceptional master-planned development. Our sustainable master plan will highlight the unique amenities for our residents, members and the surrounding community. We strongly believe this is something the people living in and around Wilmore and Lexington are eagerly awaiting.”

ABOUT LEGACY POINT:

As proposed, Legacy Point will be a premier addition to the City of Wilmore and surrounding communities of Lexington, Kentucky. The site is spread across more than 450 acres located near the City of Wilmore. This Signature Master Plan Neighborhood will feature an 18-Hole Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course, Clubhouse and Activities Center.
