Landscapes Golf Management Appoints New General Managers

Landscapes Golf Management has named David Martin as General Manager of Butler’s Golf Course in Elizabeth Township, Pa. and Gregory Smith as General Manager of Winchester Country Club in Winchester, Va.

Martin joins the daily-fee, 36-hole Butler’s from the private Diamond Run Golf Club outside Pittsburgh.  Previously, he was CEO of the Nantucket Island Chamber of Commerce, held leadership positions with other chambers, economic development and tourism organizations, and honed his hospitality skills as a cruise director with Carnival Corporation.

Butler’s represents a special homecoming for Martin who, as a 14-year-old, learned to play golf with his dad at the course.  In a short time at Butler’s, he revamped the Birdie Pass loyalty program, stay-and-play packages at the on-site B&B, and food-and-beverage offerings with spectacular utilization and business results.

“Butler’s presents a terrific golf course and is fast becoming an important, go-to gathering place in the community’s lives,” says Martin.  “With the tools and support of Landscapes Golf Management, Butler’s is not just a place to grab a beer after a round, but to enjoy amazing food and hang out with old and new friends in three unique food-and-beverage settings.”

Butler’s par-72, 6,312-yard, classic Woodside layout features gently rolling terrain, routes through woods and overlooks the Youghiogheny River.  Golf Digest calls Nos. 16 to 18 “amongst the best three finishing holes anywhere in Pennsylvania.”  At par 72 and 6,689 yards, the Lakeside course boasts dramatic vistas, elevation changes and no parallel fairways.  A joy to golfers’ senses, par 4 holes 14 and 16 slope downhill with fantastic views of the surrounding valley.

Gregory Smith as General Manager of Winchester Country Club in Winchester, Va.

Smith, a PGA member, joins Winchester Country Club with 30 years of high-end private club management experience in New York, New Jersey, New Hampshire and Virginia.  He is constructing strategies and plans to secure Winchester’s sustainable future, grooming rising-star employees, elevating the food-and-beverage operation, expanding the event calendar and cultivating a younger member base.

“Landscapes Golf Management has strengthened Winchester Country Club’s financial stability the past few years,” says Smith.  “We are well positioned to take member and guest experiences, as well as financial returns to the club, to even higher levels.”

Celebrating its 100th anniversary, Winchester Country Club’s centerpiece is its 6367-yard, par 72 golf course played over hilly terrain with wide fairways, water in play on seven holes, omni-present bunkers and undulating fast greens.  Beware par-5 holes 6 and 15 which stretch to 501 and 519 yards, respectively.  The historic course, first constructed in 1923, is an excellent showcase of early Virginia golf.

A family-friendly atmosphere features full-service dining; banquet space for special events; a world-class pool complex with a child-friendly zero entry and host to many pool parties; and fitness center with four indoor hard courts, two clay outdoor courts and pickleball courts.
