Jamie Banuelos becomes first back-to-back Recipient of the Marriott Golf Grounds Scholarship

Marriott Golf, one of the world’s premier golf operators, today announced that Jaime Banuelos has become the first two-time recipient of the Marriott Golf Grounds Scholarship, which is annually awarded to an outstanding student enrolled in a Turf Management-related program at the University of Arizona in Tucson.

After completing his undergraduate studies at the University of Arizona (UA) in 2008 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Crop Production, Jaime immediately enrolled in UA’s graduate program, and is currently in the second year of his Master’s candidacy, where he is majoring in Soil and Water Science. Jaime works in the golf grounds department at Marriott’s Starr Pass Resort and Golf Club where he is responsible for various golf course maintenance tasks which include course set-up, irrigation maintenance, Audubon compliance and safety training program. Additionally, Jaime has completed two teaching assistantships and is currently on his third with the University of Arizona.

“We are very proud to present Jaime with our Golf Grounds Scholarship for the second year in a row,” said David H. Robinson, Director of Golf Grounds, Marriott Golf. “A back-to-back recipient of this scholarship is unprecedented, but based on his commitment to excellence both in the classroom and as a member of the grounds staff at Starr Pass, Jaime is very deserving of this award.”

The Marriott Golf Grounds Scholarship is open to any student enrolled in a Turf Management-related program in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences Program at the University of Arizona, with preference given to minority and female students. The only other requirement is that each candidate must have completed an internship at any one of Marriott Golf’s properties. The UA Foundation reviews and awards the scholarship on behalf of Marriott Golf.
