Golf club hires new superintendent

Adam Zubek, most recently of Montreal, brings a wealth of experience to the post, club officials say. He has worked at several courses across North America including Royal Montreal Golf Club, Westwood Plateau Golf & Country Club in British Columbia and The Country Club of Brookline, in Massachusetts.

Zubek, an accredited member of the Canadian Golf Course Superintendent’s Association, will begin his duties at the club on Feb. 7.

He has a vision for the course.

“First and foremost, I would like to take the day-to-day operations and standards that we set for the golf course to the next level, so the membership can truly enjoy the course,” said Zubek, who holds a single-digit handicap and is a graduate of the world-renowned Turf Management Program at Penn State University.

“I would like Mississaugua (Golf and Country Club) to be regarded as having one of the
best-conditioned courses in Canada.”

Among Zubek’s duties will be to oversee completion of the remodelling of the club’s practice facilities, including the target greens.
Course general manager Ian Scott said Zubek is a welcome addition to the senior management team.
“He’s very well-educated and has a lot of energy,” Scott said. “We hope that he’ll help take … golf course maintenance and conditioning to a new level for our members.”

Mississaugua Golf and Country Club played host to six Canadian Opens between 1931 and 1974, as well as the 1998 Royale Cup Canadian Women’s Amateur Championship, 2006 Canadian Men’s Amateur Championship and the 2001 Canada Senior Open, a Professional Golfers Association Champions Tour event.
