GCSAA launches Spray Technician Certificate

The Golf Course Superintendents Association of America  (GCSAA) has launched the Spray Technician Certificate, a new workforce development program  designed to provide golf course management professionals with the knowledge and skills  needed to safely, accurately and effectively apply pesticides and fertilizers.

The program provides spray technicians, assistant superintendents and other developing  professionals with foundational education in chemical behavior, environmental responsibility  and golf course-specific best practices.

The certificate includes 10 learning units covering chemical safety and personal protective  equipment (PPE), application techniques, equipment and calibration, granular applications,  weed and disease identification, best management practices, program development, post application procedures, troubleshooting and professionalism.

GCSAA CEO Rhett Evans

“Spray application is a huge responsibility, and errors can have environmental, regulatory and  reputational consequences for a golf facility,” GCSAA CEO Rhett Evans said. “This first-of-its kind training program in the golf industry provides spray technicians with the knowledge and  confidence to perform applications safely and correctly.”

Throughout the program, participants apply what they learn to real-world responsibilities,  including safe chemical handling, accurate calibration and application, proper equipment use,  recordkeeping, environmental stewardship and troubleshooting.

GCSAA is dedicated to serving its members, advancing their profession and improving communities through the enjoyment, growth and vitality of  the game of golf.

GCSAA members can enroll in the program for $150. The total cost for nonmembers is $910,  which includes a $250 enrollment fee and $60 each webinar.
