GCSAA and Bayer CropScience send eight GCSAA members to association’s education conference and Golf Industry Show

Eight members of the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America (GCSAA) received all-expenses paid trips to the recently completed 2013 GCSAA Education Conference and Golf Industry Show in San Diego, Feb. 4-8.

Funding for the program is provided through a grant provided from the Environmental Institute for Golf with support from Bayer Environmental Science, a division of Bayer CropScience LP. The purpose of the grant is to assist golf course superintendents with their professional development through participation in the annual event. Winners receive airfare, hotel accommodations for five nights, conference full-pack registration, two education seminars and $200 spending money.

For the last decade, GCSAA and Bayer have partnered to fund attendance for five superintendents. In response to the damage caused by hurricanes Isaac and Sandy in 2012, Bayer expanded the program to eight winners to benefit three additional superintendents affected by the disasters.

“Bayer has been a strong supporter of GCSAA and the Environmental Institute for Golf by contributing to the betterment of the golf course management profession,” said GCSAA President Pat Finlen, CGCS. “We are grateful to Bayer for reaching out in support of our members and industry partners, especially those affected by the devastating hurricanes.”

The Bayer Superintendent Grant winners selected to attend the 2013 GCSAA Education Conference and Golf Industry Show include:

Bruce Gregory, Liberty (Ind.) Country Club
Bradley Lazroff, Tanglewood Golf Club, Northville, Mich.
Steve Richau, Pinewood Country Club, Asheboro, N.C.
Dan Rootes, Ponderosa Butte Golf Course, Colstrip, Mont.
Daniel Shay, Agawam Municipal Golf Course, EnField, Conn.
James (Randy) Smith, Riverlands Golf and Country Club, LaPlace, La.
