Cordova Bay Golf Course superintendent wins country’s top honour

Dean Piller helps keep Cordova Bay Golf Course one of the most beautiful courses in the country, and last weekend his efforts were rewarded.

Piller, the head superintendent at Cordova Bay since 1990, was named the winner of the Canadian Golf Superintendents Association 2010 Superintendent of the Year Award. The award recognizes a superintendent who has distinguished himself through dedication, performance and contributions to their professions and community.

Piller and Cordova Bay have hosted events from the Canadian Tour, the Canadian University Championships and the Future Links program. Piller has served on many boards, and fundraising committees.

In 2005, Cordova Bay Golf Course was named as the first golf course on Vancouver Island to achieve the Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary certification. And Piller shares his wealth of knowledge by writing articles in GreenMaster magazine, Golf Course Management, and Piller was also honoured as the CGSA/TORO 2009 Environment Achievement Award winner and he received the BCGSA Superintendent of the Year award in 2003.
