Colleton River Club Grows Professional Golf Staff

Colleton River Club, the premiere waterfront gated golf community in the Lowcountry, recently announced the growth of their professional golf staff. The golf club added Jason Sutton as Director of Instruction and two Head Professionals: Nicholas Lykens, PGA, and Tyler Bessinger, PGA.

“We are so honored to welcome these three highly experienced golf professionals to our team,” says Eric Schultz, Director of Golf. “These additions not only give our members the opportunity to learn from a variety of teaching methods but it gives Colleton River Club one of the most skilled golf staff in our region.”

Jason Sutton as Director of Instruction Colleton River Club

Originally from St. Albans, West Virginia, Jason Sutton has been teaching and coaching golf for over 25 years. In his new role at Colleton River Club, he will lead instruction and lessons for members. Because of his continuous quest for knowledge and for his willingness to share information and mentor others, he has been nicknamed “The Guru.” Sutton most recently worked at Caramel Country Club in Charlotte, North Carolina as Director of Instruction.  Sutton is a Golf Magazine Top-100 Teacher and ranked Golf Digest Best Teachers In Your State, just to name a few of his honors. He has coached numerous players on the Web.Com tour, PGA Latin America, Swing Thought tour, LPGA and Symetra tour and Division 1 college players.

Nicholas Lykens, PGA, Head Professional Colleton River Club

Nicholas Lykens joins the team as one of the new Head Professionals. He attended Florida Gulf Coast University where he studied Professional Golf Management and Resort & Hospitality and obtained his Class A PGA membership. Since then, Lykens has served as an Assistant Professional at Lakewood Country Club in Rockville, Maryland; Tournament Coordinator at PGA National Resort & Spa in Palm Beach and Lead Assistant at Savannah Golf Club.

Tyler Bessinger, PGA – Head Professional at Colleton River Club

Tyler Bessinger is a Grand Rapids, Michigan native. He attended Ferris State University in Big Rapids, Michigan where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in PGA Golf Management.

Bessinger became a Class A PGA Professional in April 2015 and has since spent time in different roles at facilities around the country. Places such as Glen View Club, Golf, IL, The Vintage Club, Indian Wells, CA, and Whitetail Club, in McCall, ID. He comes to Colleton River from Secession Golf Club, where he served as the Tournament Director.
