Cleveland Country Club: A Revitalized Member Experience Almost a Century in the Making

Shelby’s only private golf club, Cleveland Country Club is excited to announce that the club is undergoing an extensive renovation of the interior member dining room and bar, as well as the outdoor terrace dining space.

To assist with the renovations the Club has hired JPS Building as the builders for the project and Lawler Design Studios as the design firm. Upon completion, the dining area will feature a large outdoor courtyard. Comfortable chairs will be seated around tables for two or more people as well as around fire pits. Couches will be placed outside as well to encourage communal dining and comfortability among patrons. The inside dining area will feature a large winding bar for both drinking and dining, as well as subtle lighting and café style seating to help elevate the member experiences in the new casual, but refined setting. COVID-19 guidelines will continue to be followed.

Additionally, Cleveland Country Club is excited to welcome Chef Zach Anderson as the new Executive Chef. Chef Zach comes to Cleveland Country Club from The Westglow Resort in Blowing Rock, NC. He is a graduate of Caldwell Community College & Technical Institute where he earned his Associate Degree in Culinary Arts. He began his club career at Cedar Rock Country Club in Lenoir before he moved on to hold both Sous and Executive Chef positions at Archer’s Inn and the Painted Fish Café. Chef Zach’s cooking style is predominantly modern-southern integrating Cajun flavor profiles with seasonal and fresh ingredients.  Signature dishes on the new menu including Duck Confit Tacos with charred tomato relish and Seared Mountain Trout with citrus butter. The new menu will feature items using locally sourced proteins and produce, as well as house-made sauces and dry rubs.

“The addition of Chef Zach is a big step forward in ensuring a top-tier dining experience for our guests,” said General Manager, Allyson Darling. “The enhancements to the dining facility, our revamped menu, and Chef Zach’s expertise will ensure our members receive an unforgettable dining experience at Cleveland Country Club.”

The renovations to the dining space and addition of Chef Zach are only part of the $1.5 million dollar renovation that is in progress at the Cleveland Country Club. In the last twelve months, significant strides have been made to improve the club, such as repainting the tennis courts, repairing the parking lot, resurfacing all clay tennis courts, and renovating the bunkers on the golf course. The new casual dining space will elevate the food and beverage offerings at the club under Chef Anderson’s direction and will serve as the centerpiece of the new vision for Cleveland Country Club as it approaches its 93rd year in business.

“Our mission is to revitalize, restore, and reinvigorate this historic club,” said David Teddy, Board President of Cleveland Country Club. “We understand that members expect to receive an exceptional experience when they enter the club, and that is exactly what they will receive at Cleveland Country Club. These renovations will help improve the member experience and remind members why they choose to remain part of the Cleveland Country Club family year after year.”

Cleveland Country Club has raised funds for the renovations over the last few years by selling equity memberships as part of a capital funding campaign. These memberships will still be offered in efforts to continue fundraising for future improvements. Members and guests will have the opportunity to take an exclusive look at the renovations. The club will be hosting several open houses upon completion and are currently booking private hard hat tours for prospective members that are interested in learning more. To schedule a tour, please call the Director of Membership, Phillip Higginbotham at 704-482-1711 ext. 201.
