Salish Cliffs Golf Club … the latest amenity of the Squaxin Island Tribe’s Little Creek Casino Resort … today announces the hiring of David Kass, PGA, as Head Golf Professional.
Kass officially started his new position last week at the par-72, 7,300-yard championship layout that is scheduled to open this spring. The 40-year-old native of Pennsylvania comes to Salish Cliffs (www.little-creek-casino.com/golf.html) from North Palm Beach Country Club in Florida where he served as Director of Golf Operations.
“I’m honored to be the first Head Professional at Salish Cliffs Golf Club,” said Kass. “It’s exciting to be a part of this outstanding facility because the Squaxin Island Tribe is so supportive and committed to the course’s success.”
Prior to his time at North Palm Beach Country Club, Kass worked at Jupiter Hills Club in Tequesta, Fla. for six years. He also previously served on the professional staff at Canterbury Golf Club in Cleveland, Ohio, and directed the Junior Golf Academy at the renowned Treetops Resort in Michigan. Kass is a 1993 graduate of Franklin & Marshall College (Lancaster, PA) where he played on the golf team.
“David’s excellent experience and inspirational demeanor convinced us he is the right person for Salish Cliffs,” said Ray Peters, Executive Director of the Squaxin Island Tribe. “His energy and expertise working at top-notch facilities will help us deliver the high standard of service that guests of Little Creek Casino Resort expect.”
Progress on the course has shown rapid development over the last year. All 18 holes and the driving range / practice facility have been shaped and seeded with T1 bentgrass turf. In addition, construction of the log and cedar clubhouse began in October and is expected to be completed by winter’s end.
Created by renowned golf-course architect Gene Bates, Salish Cliffs will provide golfers an intimate experience with 16 of 18 holes encircled by lush forestry. The course will feature 600 feet of elevation changes and 360-degree views of Kamilche Valley.
Other notable Bates layouts include Circling Raven Golf Club (Worley, ID) and Bayonet Black Horse (Monterey, CA), ranked “100 Greatest Courses in America” and “Best in State” by Golf Digest and Golfweek, respectively, and Soldier Hollow Golf Course (Midway, UT), which will host the 2012 USGA Amateur Public Links Championship. Bates often collaborates on designs with PGA and Champions Tour star Fred Couples.
