The golf industry’s newest educational facility, Keiser University’s College of Golf, recently hosted 36 children from the Big Brothers Big Sisters agency in Fort Pierce, Fl., for a fun-filled day at the university’s new state-of-the-practice facility. Several KU golf college students volunteered to provide basic golf instruction to the children, many of whom are from distressed family situations.
“The response from the children and the other attendees was overwhelmingly positive, and I know that many who left the event expressed a strong desire to learn and play the game,” says Dr. Eric Wilson, vice president of Keiser University College of Golf and a PGA Master Professional. “Golf is a game that presents both physical and mental challenges, and it’s a great way for people of all ages to build character and develop relationships with others. We’re really excited to have had the Big Brothers Big Sisters organization here, and we’re looking forward to more events in the future.”
For more than 100 years, Big Brothers Big Sisters has operated under the belief that inherent in every child, is the ability to succeed and thrive in life. Most children served by Big Brothers Big Sisters live in single-parent and low-income families, or households where a parent is incarcerated. Big Brothers Big Sisters helps families by improving the odds that children will perform better in school and avoid violence and illegal activities, and have stronger relationships with their parents and others. Headquartered in Philadelphia with a network of nearly 400 agencies across the country, Big Brothers Big Sisters serves a quarter million children annually.
