Al Zorah Golf Club, one of the Middle East’s finest championship golf courses is pleased to welcome Ricardo Baron as the club’s new Golf Course Superintendent. In his new role, Baron will manage and oversee the agronomic maintenance of the breath-taking par-72, Nicklaus Design course in Ajman, the UAE.
Baron will bring fresh ideas to his new role thanks to his stellar career in golf course management. Born in Seville, Spain, Baron studied Agronomy and Turf Management before going on to work at Quail Hollow in the United States and Valderrama in Spain. With this experience under his belt, Baron made the move to the Middle East taking a role in the United Arab Emirates at The Els Club Dubai.
Commenting on his new role, Ricardo Baron, Golf Course Superintendent at Al Zorah Golf Club, said: “Throughout my career, I have worked in environments which focus on the smallest of details and that was a reason for being attracted to the role at Al Zorah as they have a clear goal to implement the highest of standards. I would like to thank the team at Al Zorah and Troon for giving me this incredible opportunity to continue growing in my professional career.”
The mesmerizing Al Zorah Golf Club is set amongst a naturally-preserved environment of native sandy areas, lakes, and some one million square meters of mangroves. Baron will oversee a golf course, which exposes players to a unique tidal system that changes the proposition of several holes depending on whether they’ve played in the morning or afternoon. Two magnificently-kept lakes also feature at Al Zorah Golf Club, including one that plays a prominent part in the standout par-3, 15th hole.
Phil Henderson, General Manager at Al Zorah Golf Club, said that Ricardo Baron’s appointment would aid the club’s development into 2022 and beyond: “It is incredible to have such a young, fresh, and talented new member join our dynamic team. We have many exciting projects to undertake and we believe that Ricardo’s talent, enthusiasm, and fresh ideas will be invaluable for us.”
Managed by Troon Golf and located in Ajman, just 25 minutes from Dubai International Airport, Al Zorah Golf Club is a world-class course set amidst a beautiful naturally-preserved environment of striking mangroves and sheer tranquillity. The golf club is a special proposition that’s been magically created by the famed Nicklaus Design group and awaits golfers making the short trip from Dubai and other U.A.E. regions to play Ajman’s first-ever golf course. The spectacular par-72 Al Zorah Golf Club offers a truly sensational design with pristinely manicured fairways and greens; however, it is the way the Nicklaus Design team has protected the natural environment whilst creating the layout that really catches the eye. In total, one million square meters of mangroves characterize the Al Zorah Golf Club and underline that notion of embracing rather than intruding on the natural layout of the land. A plethora of native sandy areas, an abundance of wildlife, and 12 km of waterfront add to that sense of rich beauty and biodiversity. Vast coastal areas with a constantly-changing tidal system also present a unique challenge for players, altering the look and feel of the course on an hourly basis.
